The Texas College Savings Plan is a 529 plan administered through the state of Texas and managed by OFI Private Investments Inc., a subsidiary of the financial services firm, OppenheimerFunds, Inc. This plan allows each participant to save for eligible expenses at colleges, universities, technical or graduate schools in Texas, throughout the US and at select schools overseas for the beneficiary of their choice.
A few of the benefits of enrolling in this plan are the tax-advantaged savings and contributions through payroll deduction. Unlike a taxable account, the assets in your plan account can compound tax free, giving you greater potential for growth over the long term. You can also withdraw the money federal tax free as long as it’s used to pay for qualified higher educational expenses.
Getting started is easy, just complete the attached application and employee payroll authorization form and return them to the Benefits Department. We can get you started contributing right away!
Available to full-time & part-time team members
The United College Savings Plan is designed for our company to partner with our team members who wish to further their education at any two or four year college or university. A team member who has completed 90 days of service may invest from his/her weekly paycheck an after-tax amount starting at $5.00.
United will provide a weekly contribution according to the following schedule, provided that the Team Member’s contribution meets or exceeds United’s contribution.
- $5.00 weekly match for Team Members with less than one year of service; not yet vested.
- $5.00 weekly match for Team Members with one year of service; become fully vested.
- Up to $10.00 weekly match for Team Members with two years of service.
- Up to $15.00 weekly match for Team Members with three years of service.
- Up to $20.00 weekly match for Team Members with four years of service.
The match is earned by completing a college semester with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Talent Management must receive a copy of the transcript before a check will be issued.
The United College Savings Plan is available to all team members, including high school students. The plan is only available for company team members. The plan will not reimburse tuition bills for dependents of a team member.
Team members participating in the United College Savings Plan may also be eligible for a scholarship. Each summer, the company presents a scholarship to six different team members across the company. To apply for the scholarship, request an application from your Store Director.
To enroll in the College Savings Plan, complete the Enrollment Form and submit to Talent Management at the SSC. To request a change to your College Savings Plan account (change deduction amount, request withdrawal, etc.), complete the change form and submit to Talent Management at the SSC. Please note, to receive United’s match when withdrawing funds, you must submit your tuition receipt and transcript showing a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
